Southern Miss came out with a great plan of attack on both sides of the ball. Offense was spreading them out and Jack was getting the ball to open recievers all over the field. Defense was controlling the line of scrimmage using a 3 man line and bringing a blitzer on every play. Where this game went South was the inability of the Southern Miss coaching staff to make adjustments and the ability of Tulane coaching staff to make adjustments. Hop and staff were taken to a coaching clinic. Hop and staff were taken to coaching clinic the last 3 games of the season. Hop will never beat a team if he has to outcoach the opponent. He has to be better, athletically, at almost every position on the field. Bower,Fedora,Monken could outcoach opponents. Any Group of 5 school that has success, does so because of superior coaching and schemes. Southern Miss is lacking in both. This team was too talented to win only 7 games. I don't see the talent level in the next few years being better than it was this year.
The fact that I asked Hop in the postgame presser, What was the common denominator in these final 3 loses at the end of the season? He couldn't give an answer which proves he doesn't understand how to fix the problem. There is a lack of discipline, been told this by many but will not name names, and players feel they can do whatever they want.
Nothing will probably happen with the coaching staff. If there are a bunch of coaches getting replaced, then Jeremy has told Hop that he needs to make changes. I can't see Jeremy letting things like this continue.
There are some great young men on this team and for them I hate the season ended like this. What will next season bring? No one knows. If there is less in the stands than there were this season, then something must be done. Hopson must become what he doesn't know how to be, a salesman and spokesperson for the program. He does not excite the fanbase or bring people to the game. If Jeremy keeps him then he needs to hire a PR Firm to come in and give the staff a facelift.
