One more year

Talked to a very involved, somewhat prominent, donor/alum today. A legit inner inner circle guy. His feeling was that McClain has been here for a year or less or however long it has been, and does not want to rock the boat right out the gate by firing Hopson after the bowl game, plus the money issue. Will the seat be quite hot, yes. Plus it will be that much cheaper to make a change next year. He did indicate that if we see similar results next year, a change would happen pretty immediately. And no, nobody is happy about this year or the general direction of things. There was a reference in another thread asking about donors being worn down. Well, this guy and one other I know real well are. Folks are just getting tired of fighting.

Hattiesburg American/Clarion Ledger

so I don’t pay much attention anymore to how the Clarion Ledger or the Hattiesburg American cover USM, and I know they were sharing USM content written by an American staffer for awhile, but I noticed the American’s story on the Bowl game was an AP article. Does either paper have a Southern Miss beat reporter spot anymore? I know Gannett is known in journalism circles for sometimes cutting and consolidating resources it deemed redundant and it just merged with Gatehouse which was notorious for being horrible cheapskates, but I wasn’t sure if the Southern Miss beat was just being dropped all together at the papers or not. Anyone know?

Okay I understand we all feel like this was better than a 7-6 team

and did not expect to blown off the field by Tulane. But its Jan 6th do we make a change now or just agree to see if the Junior college transfer kids help next year. I just feel if we make a move this late we will regret it. I feel like if everyone knows this year is it going in then we will be more unified in a firing and have a better idea of the next candidate. You could not be better prepared for a game than us. Its just the in game adjustments that are not happening. That happens with a young staff. Just one mans opinion.

Since we are all talking about mens basketball.

I see in the commitment section that we have none for 2020 while other schools have one or two. I wonder if this list has been updated or if we don't have any.

Also, the game of the century will not be with Old Dominion as I thought with but Middle Tenn. OD has greatly improved their record and we don't have a chance. MTSU is an away game for us. I know its a sold-out game but I am going and try to get a ticket from a scalper. Both teams are 2-9

A look back at the 2019 Southern Miss football season.

There is no way to try and sugarcoat it, this season was not what the Southern Miss faithful thought it should have been headed into the 2019 football season. Jay Hopson, as the head coach at Southern Miss, has compiled a 28-22 record in 4 seasons. Just looking at this, on the surface, one might surmise that the Golden Eagle football program is stable and moving in a positive direction. To dig deeper, another conclusion is obvious to some. Is this football program on the upswing? Is this football program just treading water? Is the bottom about to drop out? These are questions that must be answered before Spring Practice 2020 starts.
