Southern Miss took to the practice field today at the Joe P. Park Facility under sunny skies and warmer temps. The spirited work-out lasted a smidge under two hours. BGN was on hand and files this report.
- OT Andrew Peterson was held out of practice today due to dehydration from the virus he had over the weekend. He is expected to practice but will be limited on Thursday.
- There continues to be great competition at a number of positions including linebacker, defensive back, offensive line and quarterback.
- DB Deshadrick Turly made a great move on an INT that was returned for a pick-six during team drills.
- Freshman WR Jordan Mitchell made some nice plays.
- Walk-on TE Darius Stallworth (Coahoma CC) looks like he may be a guy that could get some snaps somewhere this coming year even if it's on special teams.
- In the QB competition Nick Mullens continues to be Mr. Dependable. Tyler Matthews had a better day throwing the ball on Tuesday than Sunday.
- OT Norman Price is a guy who I think could have a turn-around type year. He has really worked hard to drop some poundage, I suspect he played north of 350-pounds last year. Right now he looks more like 320 or so.
- Interviews coming up with Elijah Parker and coach Todd Monken.
