The following link is to one of those articles you never expect to see. Leftist fans of John Lennon will have to go into a state of denial. Imagine how many of his most rabid fans have spent hundreds if not thousands of hours of their life listening to his songs in the mistaken belief that he shared their Marxist/Socialists beliefs.

Lennon a closet Republican

So many of us that lived through that period grew out of our beliefs that were based on wishful thinking at best. That is one of the things about Lennon that so many loved, he reflected the generation, and was so open in his his music. I didn't always agree with his beliefs, but loved his music. I'm not surprised that he changed, just like so many of us did. The sad thing is that most of the people running this country now never grew up and are still stuck in the 60's.

I think you are giving music fans too much (or too little) credit. I don't think many people stand on principle when choosing their music, or any art for that matter. I certainly don't.

One of my favorite songwriters is Steve Earle. He's probably written 60-75 REALLY GOOD songs, which would put him in the discussion with names like Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Politically, he probably a bit to the left of Mao Tse-Tung. I hate it. But it has never stopped me from enjoying his albums.

Likewise, "Jealous Guy" and "In My Life" are two of the best songs ever, regardless of whether John Lennon or Vladimir Lenin wrote them.

Lennon probably is not a lot different from other 'thinking' people. I'm reminded of the old adage:

"If you are under 20 years old and not a liberal, you have no heart...and if you are older than 30 years old and not a conservative, you have no brain."

There's lots of truth to that. The ideals and rebelliousness of youth are full of passion, but often misguided. This naturally progresses into the more practical and well-reasoned thinking of an adult. Lennon's formative songwriting years with the Beatles and later as he started his solo career probably reflected the ideals of his youth. But the man grew up and got wiser, apparently. Not everyone does.

b97 Worm drank too many beers in college and killed most of his brain cells. What few that's left have been permanently beer logged ever since. lol
