This event is usually held every four years, however the last iteration of the competition took place in 2019 as Canada won its fifth straight gold medal on the men’s side. In fact, since the first tournament in 2003, Canada has won all five gold medals and is undefeated in all games. The Haudenosaunee Nationals finished second in all five World Lacrosse Box Championships and the United States took home bronze in all five.

It is important to note that the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships will now feature women’s teams for the first time.

Firewolves head coach Glenn Clark will lead Team Canada, looking to repeat after winning it all in 2019. He will have Firewolves defenseman Nick Chaykowsky on his team, as well as Firewolves forward Alex Simmons as an alternate.

Firewolves defenders Joe Nardella and John Wagner will play for Team USA. Goalie Doug Jamieson and forward Travis Longboat will play for Team Haudenosaunee.

There will also be some former Great Danes playing. Jamieson and Longboat will be joined by Lyle Thompson and Tehoka Nanticoke on Team Haudenosaunee. Former UAlbany goalie Blaze Riorden will play for Team USA.

Beyond the results on the field, this is an opportunity to continue to grow the sport of box lacrosse. “That’s the goal, right? To build this and build the game as much as you can,” said Clark. “This Championship and this opportunity for people to see these games, you have, the NLL has the best players in the world and now it’s just kind of amplified when you’ve got Canada, Haudenosaunee and the U.S. playing in particular, because those rosters are just jam packed with NLL players.”
