All this talk about them wanting to dismantle UAB in football. Why even get them started in the first place? What purpose would that serve?

Also how is it that UAB is managed by the U of A trustees?

History lesson?

"Also how is it that UAB is managed by the U of A trustees?"

From Wikipedia.

"The University of Alabama System consists of three public universities in Alabama, USA: The University of Alabama (UA) located in Tuscaloosa, The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). The schools have a total undergraduate and graduate enrollment of more than 55,000, with over 30,000 students in Tuscaloosa, just under 18,000 at Birmingham and 7,600 in Huntsville. The system operates on state appropriations, student tuition and fees, public and private grants and contracts, and revenue from the UAB Health System. The three universities' endowments are managed by the UAS office and have a total pooled value of $984.9 million.[2]"

let me be more specific. If they didnt want to let UAB have its own football program then why even bother to begin with?

I think some UAB big dollar guys, like MD's at the med school and practicing around Birmingham, (many really hate UA-Tuscaloosa ) pushed it, paid for it, but found it to be a bottomless pit. I am not sure, but I think Paul Bryant Jr. was instrumental in blocking it but was accused of having a conflict-of-interest and so relented. He is, or was, a trustee of the Alabama College system, and was, in fact, the president of the board. Bear's legacy still carries weight in Alabama.
My memory is pretty sketchy but posters from Birmingham should be able to correct me or fill in the blanks for your question.
