What are the two bowl possibilities?

I am not at all knowledgeable about how they decide these things, but the announcers mentioned first place goes to Miami, then Dallas gets the runner up. Miami would not be a very good choice for us. But, it is December 21, and Dallas is December 26. I think Dallas pays over a million. I haven't seen a payout for the Miami Beach bowl. New Orleans pays 500k. I think the conference may divvy us up, and out, as it decides.

I heard that announcement too, and I think the FOX announcer must be mistaken. Miami would be as big of a mistake as Hawai'i.

Those announcers don't know crap.

Our administration is trying to get to the Independence Bowl. If not that, Dallas. There's nothing else we want. And luckily for us, both bowls want us.

Indy/HOD would both be great choices. Kentucky lost today, so I don't know what that does to the number of SEC teams.

This is my understanding of the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The Big 12 has seven bowl tie-ins, eight if you include a team from the Big 12 making it into the playoffs. They currently have 6 bowl eligible teams. Kansas State is currently 5-6 and needs to win at home against West Virginia to become the 7th bowl eligible team from the Big 12. So to see a Big 12 team in the Heart of Dallas Bowl two things need to happen:

1. Hope Oklahoma State defeats Oklahoma tonight to rule out any team from the Big 12 being in the playoffs.
2. Hope Kansas State defeats West Virginia next week to become 6-6 (and most likely the Big 12 representative at the Heart of Dallas Bowl).

Edit: I forgot to mention that the Heart of Dallas Bowl gets the very last pick of the seven bowls, which is why it's necessary for Kansas State to become bowl eligible.

I'd love to play KState to make up for their 2001 dodge to not play us.....

I had almost forgot about that until you reminded me. That really irked me at the time. As I recall the Black Coaches Association (BCA) wanted to schedule an early benefit game at some neutral location. We, USM, were actually their first choice of teams and they went looking for another decent team to play us. Kansas State announced that they would play the game, but with the stipulation that the BCA dump us as the opponent. KSU wanted no part of playing us, fearing it was too great of a risk that they might lose. They never stated it that way, but there could be no other reason for that decision. They wanted the BCA to fill in our spot with a 100% cupcake team that KSU was sure they could win against. I think the BCA even offered to play the game at Arrowhead Stadium which would have been like a home game for them- KSU still refused.

As I recall the BCA ended up dropping both of us as participants. They dropped KSU because of their demands, and us because they simply couldn't find any other decent team that was willing to play us. I believe the game was played, but had two very forgettable opponents.
