I just wish they had been 7-5. Win and we just beat a losing record team. Lose and we lost to a mediocre P5 team. I know that they're a solid team, but perception...

It won't matter. We're very fortunate to have an opponent as good as Washington. And I'm pumped about playing a quality program we've never faced before! Had things gone just a little differently we could have ended up going to Dallas to play a team like Nevada or Tulsa. Looking at the game from Washington's perspective they could make a similar claim- defeat Southern Miss and they get a win against a G5 team whose biggest win was Louisiana Tech. Lose to Southern Miss and they end the season with a losing record....and against a G5 school whose biggest win was against Louisiana Tech.
Southern Miss has its work cut out for them. They'll have to play like they did against Rice and Louisiana Tech to come away with a win (and by a much smaller margin). None of the six teams Washington lost to had a losing record. They traveled to USC and won- the team that played last night in the PAC 12 championship game against Stanford. And they're coming off a 45-10 drubbing of a good 8-4 Washington State. Southern Miss isn't going to be playing against a demoralized team. You can be sure they want to finish with a 7-6 record to set the stage for a much better season next year. If we must shrug our shoulders about defeating a Washington team that goes to 6-7, we can console ourselves knowing we also defeated a team that had victories against USC and Washington State. That's not so bad.
