Manny Diaz?

What's to be gained from playing against a M. Diaz La Tech's D last year? And, although under a different coaching staff, we also faced Diaz's MTSU defense in 2009.

However, focusing on last year's effort, our offense seamed to moved to ball consistently against La Tech's D up until Mullens got hurt. Diaz's defenses are pressure based defenses with an array of blitzes. We are certain to see mustly man-to-man coverage on the outside with blitzes called from anywhere on the defensive side.

We either had a good game-plan last year or our players were simply better than Tech's that particular game because we were able to hit some big plays down field as well as opened running lanes. It seemed we either ran opposite to the blitzes or simply picked them up and this gave us some success early and often into the game.

Will Manny's MSU D be more effective with better players than his La Tech D? The wise bet will be yes. But we can't rule out familiarity; in which, he will be of us as we are of him. Calling if Manny decide to exert pressure from the get go vs. coming out vanilla is a tough decision to game plan against. More than likely, he comes out doing what he does best, that's, blitzing to try and set the tone.

Our response should be, and I'm tearing a page from Coach Tony D' Amato's playbook..."Right out of the gate, let it fly...Go 999 and shock the $hit out of 'em...

Ok...right play but hopefully a different result!
