HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Southern Miss reminds fans of the policies for campus tailgating during home football contests, beginning next weekend when the Golden Eagles welcome Kentucky to town.
Southern Miss allows personal tailgate tent setups in open green spaces on campus beginning the day before a home football game at 12 Noon. (For a Saturday game, tailgate tents can be set up beginning on Friday at 12 p.m.). During days that classes are in session from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. normal parking rules will be enforced on campus and we ask that you do not park in emergency lanes or no parking/ 24 hour reserved parking zones.
Fans are also kindly asked to remove their tent(s) and other tailgate items from campus grounds by 12 Noon the following day after a football game in order to facilitate a smooth postgame campus cleanup. If these items are not removed by then, they will be collected and stored at the Physical Plant offices for you to pick up. The USM Physical Plant and USM Police Department are not responsible for any tents/tailgate items or damage to these items if they are not collected by the above stated time.
CAMPUS TAILGATING GUIDELINES
·Campus will open at 12 p.m. the day before a home game for tailgate set up.
·With the exception of approved University-sponsored tents, all spaces are on a first-come basis.
·All tailgate set ups must be picked up by 12 p.m. the day following a home game.
·No pull behind cookers/ grills are allowed on grass areas without prior approval from the University.
·Automobiles are prohibited from the grassy and tree lined areas unless approved by the University prior to game day.
·Small, portable, single-unit grills are permitted. All burning or hot charcoal must be disposed of properly; do not dispose of on any grass area, in trashcans or dumpsters.
·Portable generators with a decibel rating of 60db or less are permitted for tailgate use.
·No solicitation is permitted, including commercial or political advertising.
·Help keep campus beautiful by placing all trash in the proper receptacles.
·Music and amplified sound should be kept at a reasonable level that does not detract from others tailgating experience.
·Do not leave valuables unattended. The University is not responsible for unattended tents and items.

SPIRIT PARK GUIDELINES
Nestled between the Thad Cochran Center and the Century Park South residential complex, Spirit Park is the new hub of activity on game day. The area plays host to the Southern Miss pregame radio shows and is conveniently located close to the Barnes and Noble Bookstore and Fresh Food Company.
·The unloading/drop-off process will be available the day before a home game from 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. and on game day starting at 8 a.m. to 5 hours prior to kickoff.
·Fans wishing to unload for Spirit Park should enter Golden Eagle Avenue from 4th Street, then turn onto Ray Guy Way. When unloading tailgate items during hours that academic classes are in session please do not block Ray Guy Way between Spirit Park and Century Park South residential complex. After 5 p.m. you may park temporarily on Ray Guy Way to unload tailgate items.
·Tailgating will close at midnight every evening in this area.
·Only University-sponsored events are held in reserved spaces. All other space is claimed on a first-come basis.
·No wheeled vehicles or trailers are permitted in Spirit Park (this includes golf carts)
·No pull behind cookers/ grills are allowed in Spirit Park.
·Open fires are prohibited.
·Pop-up tents of 12’x12’ or smaller are the only tents allowed in Spirit Park - the driving of stakes for any tent setup is prohibited (to avoid electrical and water lines).
THE DISTRICT TAILGATING CODE OF CONDUCT
Three primary areas comprise The District:
1. The District “core” south of the Ogletree House
2. The District lawns adjacent to the Ogletree House and the Honor House
3. Lake Byron and surrounding area
·The District maintains a student- and alumni-centered focus with the basic understanding that all participants will respect the area and their fellow Golden Eagles while visiting.
·Tailgating in The District is allocated on a first-come basis.
·Automobiles are prohibited from the grassy and tree-lined areas. Limited drop-off access is available at the west end of The District for quick delivery of tailgating essentials. However, at appropriate times, all vehicular traffic to The District will be prohibited to protect the safety of those gathered.
·All tents in The District should register with the safety and security booth identifying the name of the organization or individual sponsoring the tent. Due to the proximity of those assembled, 12’ x 12’ or smaller is an appropriate size for each tent.
·Lawn furniture only may be used. Residential furniture is not appropriate.
·Small, portable, single-unit grills are permitted. Open fires are prohibited. Professional, industrial and catering-style cookers are prohibited.
·Glass containers are prohibited.
·No animals are allowed in The District.
·The University Alcohol Policy remains in effect.
·For the respect and regard of all tailgating, amplified sound at an audible/volume detracting from others’ experiences is prohibited at each respective tailgating area.
·The District will provide either a band or DJ for entertainment.
·The university is not responsible for lost, stolen or misplaced items.
·Tailgating in The District will end by midnight on any given evening or as deemed necessary by university officials.
·All tailgating materials should be removed from The District within 24 hours after kickoff. A minimum of $100 will be charged for material pickup.
The university Code of Conduct remains in effect at all times. Violations of The District policies will be managed by the Office of the Dean of Students and the University Police Department.
