Team Notes

* The Golden Eagles went 3-0 last week, posting their first three-game sweep of a Conference USA opponent since sweeping Middle Tennessee (April 26-28, 2019). The final game of the four-game series was rained out. It was the first league game lost due to weather since the final game of the 2018 UTSA series (March 18) in Hattiesburg.

* Gabe Montenegro hit safely in all three games during the weekend to extend his current team-best hitting streak to 10 games. During the streak, Montenegro is hitting .488 (20x41) with five doubles, a triple, a home run and 9 RBI. He has seen his average rise from .182 to .312 during the streak.
* Redshirt freshman Billy Garrity collected his first Golden Eagle hit in the opening game of a twinbill on Friday, in the eighth inning, to give USM a 9-8 extra-inning advantage. The Roadrunners scored a run in the bottom half of the frame and Southern Miss pulled away finally with a four-run 10th. Transfer Blake Johnson also hit his first Golden Eagle homer in the second game of the doubleheader.

* Ryan Och retired eight of nine batters he faced to improve to 3-0 after keeping UTSA off the board in the 10-inning win.

* Ben Ethridge finished the series by limiting the Roadrunners to two runs on two hits, all of which came in the first, shutting down UTSA the rest of the way as he posted nine strikeouts and walked three over six innings to improve to 2-1.

* Southern Miss registered a season-high 19 hits in the series opener and scored in double digits twice in the set, now scoring in double digits five times in 2021.

* The Golden Eagles are now 9-1 when they score in the opening frame and 11-2 when they score first this season.
