Here a a few highlights from today's scrimmage:

The Big Play:

Early in the scrimmage they were working on coming out of their own endzone, Nick Mullens drops back, and throws it up for Isaiah Jones. Jones climbs the latter takes it off the defender and his the ground running for a 95+ yard TD pitch and catch.

The Big Hit:

The biggest hit I have seen this spring. Parker Adamson hits Reid Rials on catch & run designed play near the side line and Kelsey Douglas lowers the boom on Rials sending them both flying out of bounds. Rials was rocked, laid on the sideline for a couple of moments, caught his breath and went back into the game.

New Twist:

Looks like they are going to do different things to get TE Julian Allen on the field. We have long considered Allen a TE/WR hybrid but we may have to change that to TE/WR/FB Hybrid. He had a nice seal block today that sprung Ito Smith for a nice TD run.

Defense Steps Up:

The Southern Miss defense made a big step forward today, after total dominance by the offense a week ago the defense came back swinging. I lost count at about 14 sacks on USM quarterbacks today. Not all that many INT's but they QB's were getting harassed all day.

Top Recruits:

Southern Miss hosted a small handful of quality recruits today. Here's the guys I was able to identify just looking at the group:

Jay Jimson - Lake HS
James Jackson - Pascagoula
Darius Campbell - John Ehret
Mikhail Hill - West Jefferson
Damien Degruy - West Jefferson

Of these guys Jimson is the one I know the least about, but let me tell you he dang sure passes the eyeball test. Good looking athlete.
