The search for new players by the Huff team appears to be nationwide, and the offers are going out like crap through a goose. Some of them are realistic, while others are pipedreams. Some Marshall players are scheduled to visit USM, but we do not know who or the number. In my opinion, we will not be able to land the quarterback, other first-team players, or top-notch players for which we have sent offers. Unless Huff and Anderson have a strong connection with them personally, they will likely land in more prominent programs. We will end up with 2nd team players from Marshall and other schools.
Why? Talented players will not want to join a one-win team. They want to play for a more prominent and successful program with high visibility and more money to offer. They want to go to a school that wins, even though it may be another SBC school. It will be hard to overcome if our best players leave (what few they are) and second-teamers replace them. Currently, we have only a couple of bright spots on our commitment list, so these offers are most likely wasted. It is a little early to tell, but we have a long way to go in fielding a possible bowl contender.
