There is a lot of animosity in Louisiana regarding ULL insisting on being referred to as the University of Louisiana although the legislature specifically directed they be designated as the UIniversity of Louisiana at Lafayette as the one in Monroe using the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Lets be fair to both and avoid the fray by referring to each by their legally designated name. Neither can be upset if we toe the line. Remember we play ULM in a lot of sports too so lets dont disrespect them by knuckling under to the demands of ULL. Keep the peace.

I would agree if there were no objections, etc but this is a family fight which we should avoid. I will disagree completely with your comment about LSU trying to hold them down. LSU could care less about them, Tigers generate over $100 mil per year in their athletic dept placing them in the elite category of being one of just a few who operate at a profit. The athletic dept transfers millions to the academic side very year. They have over 90,000 fans per game, ULL is no more than a gnat to them.

What do you think would happen if USM decided to declare ourselves as the University of Mississippi and then want everyone to refer to those upstate as the University of Mississippi at Oxford. Do you think that would start a family fued? Would you expect everyone to call us University of Mississippi just because we want to be called that?

There is no school that officially call themselves the University of Louisiana. I know about Tulane's claim. There is a school that calls themselves the University of Mississippi already. How is that even comparable? LSU tries to hold every other Louisiana school down. I have never heard a Monroe fan say they wanted to be called the University of Louisiana. If it pisses LSU fans off I am all for it. I can's see why this would bother you a USM fan?

Their preference is that everyone call their athletics teams simply "Louisiana" Ragin Cajuns. They don't preface it with University of.
