Looks like the mighty Mississippi is rising to near record heights. It is supposed to rise to 54 feet is Vicksburg and 60 feet at Natchez and Greenville.
The Coast Guard shut down the Upper Mississippi River in St. Louis, MO today due to extremely high water. It is bad up here but will not exceed the 1993 high water event on the Upper Mississippi River in the area right around St. Louis. The Upper Mississippi River, Illinois River, Missouri River, Ohio River, and other tributaries to these rivers are all running high and on their way down to the Lower Mississippi River. I was stationed in Baton Rouge for the 1997 extreme high water event that year. Hopefully it will not be as bad as 1997 on the Lower Mississippi River.
