Perhaps they should consider using something more up to date like smoke signals? I haven't seen such a ramshackle broadcast since USM baseball radio was once broadcast to cows out in Wayne County. I remember around 5 years ago Cox and his sidekick had to broadcast sitting on top of their equipment box outside exposed to the elements at UTSA. I will try to find a pic of it. It was on twitter.

Hi Houston, I'm in Laurel, and I can pick it up, but there are some days that it's back to hanging the radio on a hook, or determining N/S or E/W for the radio position, or whether I need to lay it on its back. Laying it on its back with a N/S orientation seems to do better while I am within 7-8 feet from the radio. But, ya know what ? I haven't tried tinfoil on the antenna yet. Will report on the results.

I remember when I was still in high school, USM was taking on U of H for the right to go to the Liberty Bowl. I found some weak broadcast south of Jackson and when I could hear it, I could hear Cox mention Adalius Thomas over and over. Unfortunately I could hear Sherrod Gideon tackled a yard short of the goal line a la Tennessee Titan Super Bowl style.
After graduating from USM, I started another degree in Arkansas but still followed USM. USM was playing Cincinatti in football one weekend, and li and behold I picked up the Cincy broadcast on some obscure radio broadcast. USM came from behind and kicked a knuckle ball field goal and the Cincy radio guys were beyond ticked. They said USM "stole" a game...LOL!!!
Say Im old enough to remember tv stations signing off to the"Flag Evolution" national anthem with the astronaut standing on the moon. I still get chills of pride thinking off it. Anyway communications have come a long way!
