HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's basketball team will look for its third consecutive win Wednesday night at 7 p.m. CT when it takes on Alabama A&M in a road battle.

– Sunday was a banner day for the Golden Eagles, rolling past defending-Sun Belt champion Troy, 89-71, behind 57 percent shooting in Reed Green Coliseum. It was the team’s first win over an NCAA Tournament team from the previous season since North Dakota State on Dec. 6, 2015.
– Dominic Magee led the way with 27 points, his most as a Golden Eagle, over a career-high 35 minutes. He also made his first four field goal attempts. Tyree Griffin followed with a career-high 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting, while Cortez Edwards scored six of his 16 points in consecutive fashion to maintain the double-digit lead for the rest of the way with 14 minutes remaining. It was the second-straight game two Golden Eagles had 20-point outings, as Edwards had a career-high 29 to go with Griffin’s 21 in the Dec. 3 win over Rust.
– The talented backcourt trio has come into its own over the last three games with Magee averaging 20.3 points per game and Edwards and Griffin posting totals of 19.7 and 15.3 ppg, respectively. Each of them also hold the distinction as the team’s top rebounders, varying between 5.8 and 5.6 per game. At an average height of 6-foot-1, it’s the shortest among such a trio in C-USA.
– Griffin ranks third in C-USA for assists (6.2 apg) and ninth in scoring (16.1 ppg), making he and Marshall’s Jon Elmore as the only ones to place in the top-10 for each category.
– Southern Miss played just seven against Troy, and it was the fifth-different starting lineup used for the year. The last time the Golden Eagles played that many in a game was in a 71-64 loss to Tulane on Dec. 10, 2017.
– Southern Miss’ 13 made three-pointers (24 attempts) against the Trojans were its most in a game since the 2015-16 finale at Marshall (15-for-30). Kevin Holland made three of his five tries, keeping him No. 2 in C-USA (20-for-37, .541). The 13 deep balls are tied for second-most by a C-USA team this season.
– The Golden Eagles remain No. 4 nationally for assist/turnover ratio, posting a 1.70 mark for the season, trailing only Davidson, Saint Mary’s and Michigan while holding a slight lead over Notre Dame and Kansas. Southern Miss is tied for fifth in fewest turnovers per game (9.6) and committed none in the second half versus Troy (also shot 65 percent).
– Despite the modest geography, this is only the second time Southern Miss and Alabama A&M have faced each other. Last November, the Golden Eagles won 63-55 behind 19 points from Raheem Watts and 17 from Tim Rowe. The battle was also won at the free-throw line, where the Black and Gold shot 18-for-21 compared to the Bulldogs’ 4-for-4.
– This is Alabama A&M’s second home game of the season, having previously fallen to Georgia State (63-53) on Nov. 29. The Bulldogs dropped an 83-59 decision at DePaul late Monday night.
