Even at my home in Galveston County, the temperature dropped to 21. Jackson dropped to 10, Vicksburg to 11, etc.

Larurel's low was 10, Meridian 8. About 2 1/2 " of sleet and snow in Laurel.

The last time it was this cold was in December 1989. My stepdad's daughter flew in from California to Jackson when it was a high of 9 degress and a low of 4. My crazy grandmother picked me up from school. The gas heaters were on full flame at school and we were still freezing. I begged mother NOT to send my crazy grandmother to come to my classroom because she dressed worse than Minnie Pearl and acted 10 times worse. She showed up all wrapped up like a desert Bedowin trader. The kids in my class laughed so hard that they cried. That evening I stayed with my grandparents in Claiborne county in their Depression area home that looked like Eddie Albert's home on Green Acres. It was only warmed by a wood burning stove and the temp dropped to 4. Six of my grandma's quilts weren't enough to stay warm. Needless to say, I'll never forget that day.
