Canelo Alvarez will put his WBC, WBO and WBA super middleweight world titles on the line against Edgar Berlanga on Saturday, Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) was the undisputed champion at 168 pounds before the IBF stripped him of the belt in July after Alvarez decided to face Berlanga instead of the organization's No. 1 mandatory challenger, William Scull.

The 34-year-old Alvarez has won titles in four divisions, and he's coming off a unanimous decision victory over Jaime Munguia in May. Since his loss to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022 challenging for a light heavyweight title, Alvarez has won four consecutive fights, all by unanimous decisions.

While Berlanga is not what most fight fans wanted (we were all pining for David Benavidez, sigh), this is still a great matchup featuring a Top 10-ranked fighter taking on the pound-for-pound great on one of the premier nights of boxing, Mexico’s Independence Day.

Canelo needs no introduction — he’s boxing’s biggest star right now and has been for a few years. Pretty much everyone knows who he is. However, he’s indulging in a bit of cherry picking right now, fighting what many perceive to be an easier fighter compared to other potential challenges out there. But, in the end, we’re still getting a great bout, so there’s no point in crying over the what if’s, but instead we’re here to enjoy what we get.

Who will walk out of Las Vegas as the unified super middleweight champion when Canelo Alvarez defends the WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring belts against Edgar Berlanga?

It took Canelo eleven months to hold all the gold at 168, while Berlanga is a rising star looking to prove he's worthy of facing the mighty Canelo.
