It's time for our first HOT LIST of 2017.
Below are a number of prospect that we have reason to believe are very close to committing to Southern Miss.
1) DL - Antonio Moultrie - West Florida (Pensacola) Tech: There was a tweet this past week that indicated that Moultrie had committed to Southern Miss, but we have been unable to confirm that commitment. I understand other sources have reported him as a commitment but at this point I am not comfortable adding him to the list. I do think that there is a good chance of him ending up committed to Southern Miss.
2) DB - Sean Bouie - Champagnat Catholic (Haileah, FL): Bouie recently told Rivals' Rob Cassidy that he planned to commit to Southern Miss during an unofficial visit to Southern Miss this month. We believe that visit will take place this coming week and Bouie will be on the board.
3) DL - Tahj Sykes - Columbus (MS) High: Sykes recently told BigGoldNation.com that Southern Miss feels like a second home. He has built a strong relationship with his recruiter Desmond Lindsey. He has made several trips to Southern Miss for different events. Don't be shocked if he's pledged to the black and gold soon. Sykes will be back on campus this coming weekend for another camp.
4) RB - Isiah Cox - Jasper (AL) High: Last month Cox told BGN that he was very high on Southern Miss. The Eagles are not the only program, he holds offers from Ark St., Ohio and USA. If the Eagles decide to push he would likely jump on board.
5) ATH - LeAndre Thomas - Wingfield (Jackson, MS) High: Thomas is in the database as an ATH because he plays QB for Wingfield. But, his future is likely at the WR or DB position. Southern Miss offered Thomas as a WR and he's excited about the opportunity. He is as close as you can get to a sleeper in 2016 and Southern Miss is in great shape with him.
6) OL - Austin Stidham - Russellville (AL) High: The Eagles are in great shape with Stidham, he's made several trips to Hattiesburg and has reported a great experience each time he's visited. Unless Auburn or Vandy come through with a late offer, expect Stidham to be in the Black and Gold.
7) WR - Jaylen Jenkins - Clay County (FL) High: Jenkins was excited with Southern Miss became the first program to extend him an offer and that put the Eagles in a clear lead for his services. He'll like pick up more offers and gain more interest headed into his senior year, but the Eagle look to be in good shape. He tells BGN he will be in town on July 15-16 for an unofficial visit.
8) WR - Kalem Reddix - St. Martin (Ocean Springs, MS): Reddix was a one time commit to Southern Miss. Despite opening his recruitment Southern Miss is still very much in the mix. Of the schools that have offered USM is the clear leader, will be interesting to see who else gets in the mix.
9) RB - Isaiah Woullard - Presbyterian Christian (Hattiesburg, MS): Southern Miss was the first, and so far only school to have offered Mississippi's leading rusher from 2015. Expect that to change this coming week when he camps at Tulane. He also has a camp planned for UNC. The Tar Heels have two RB's committed and offers out to several more, I would not expect an UNC offer in his future.
Sunday Morning Update:
10) OL - DJ Delfendahl - Mount Juliet (TN) High: Standout offensive lineman with a great frame to build on, 6-foot-6, 270-pounds. Southern Miss is in good shape, as he made an unofficial visit right before this current dead period started. He will have a decision to make between playing FBS at a program like Southern Miss and playing FCS at an Ivy League school like Brown, Columbia or Yale who have all offered. If he goes the FBS route, Southern Miss is in great shape unless Vandy offers. He wants to go pre-med, and was really impressed with former USM OL Brian Long earning a big med-school scholarship.
