I am somewhat of a fan of the belief that often the simplest way to solve a problem may often be the best.

We have a decent group of coaches right now, good enough to get us nine wins last season and gain a lot of momentum headed into the 16/17 season. Recruiting is looking good. Morale is high for both the team and the fans.

Coach Monken did some great things at Southern Miss. He sat things in place that can last, and even though he left us at a bad time, he left us in pretty good shape. He had given us some much needed stability.

We have a good coach in Dave Duggan with head coach experience. He is familiar to the team and recruits alike, and the current staff would stay in tact maintaining the stability that Monken gave us. He has years of experience at Southern Miss.

We have all heard from the "We need the best we can get" argument. While that might be nice for some it is simply a perpetuation of the coaching revolving door.

If we don't hire Duggan and maintain our staff, recruits, and program, aren't we just throwing away everything we just built???

I'm with ya......very concerned. If a brand new coach comes in, I find it hard to imagine that he'll keep all the current assistants. Will he create an entire new offensive scheme with a group that's been playing together for 3 solid years and know it like the back of their hand????? Jeez......I still can't believe we are having to deal with this again so soon. I'm beginning to lean towards Duggan too for that reason alone.

Occam's razor? Yes, there is something to that. It is often the right approach. On the other hand this is really a very complex decision. So many factors to consider that it gives me a headache. McGillis has to look at every viable option and then make a decision. It might be Duggan. It might not. I do not expect an announcement before Saturday and will support the HFC he selects without reservation. JMHO.

Thanks, guys. I am a fan of stability. With all the changes in staff and schemes that are possible it all leaves me dizzy. And what in the world are the players to think?

We shall see what wee shall see.

I love our University and its people. The kids have to come first in all of this.

I wonder if the hold up is McGillis trying to get a much larger buyout that makes it harder for the next coach to leave after a couple of seasons?

Feels like I'm in one of those dreams when the bad guy is chasing you, and you are stuck in place.

AAAAAAArrrrrrrggggggg!!!

Here's the deal, we don't know what the hold up is. It could be about a buy out, how much salary a coach is wanting, about retaining the ass. coaches now , it could be so many things that we have no idea in heaven and that is why we are not the AD and do not have all the information available to us. It isn't all black and white, if it was, anyone could do the job. So, we just have to wait and see. We don't know, how many turned us down for the job or what. So, again, we wait and see.

I would hope McGillis would insist the new coach keep the majority of the current staff for the coming season. It's so late in the year, I would hope he could make that happen. The buy out should be simple, whatever is left on the contract when they leave, plus one years salary.

Hopson and Nussmier would be poor hires. I hope that Patty Magee's article about them being "serious candidates" are wrong. Hopson seems like a great person, but a huge red flag went up when he was overlooked for the ULM job, an hour's commute from Vicksburg. Nussmier's offenses have been slow and extremely unproductive. At this point, I'd say the TCU offensive coordinator would be best.

Why would a huge red flag go up because he was overlooked by ULM. Are they some kind of standard against which to judge people. Just think, how many "Huge Red Flags" went up when Monken was overlooked and Ellis Johnson got the call ? A lot of this also comes down to personality. Maybe ULM AD didn't like him, or has something else in mind. The fact that ULM passed on him has no significance whatsoever.
