#FireBerry

I was very upset with one or both Berry and Ostrander after the CUSA Tourney. Today proved my point that we have pitching available IF WE CHOOSE TO USE IT. I don't buy into the idea that "we were out of options", and I'm not all the way in on the philosophy of, " those we have left just didn't match up with (enter your team choice here)" .

There were improvements during the regional, although I thought today that we waited far too long to use the pitching that we did. If we had stopped the bleeding earlier we may have won this game. Hitting improved (why is a good question), and pitching improved, again, why ? I know this is college level, but I want to win, and too often our coaches seem to just motor along without doing the things we need to in order to win.

I will go back to how we handled the Bower situation. It was a giant mistake that still haunts us today. Baseball is the last sport we have that we can look forward to each year, at least in the big three. Forty win seasons and regional wins don't grow on trees. Our coaches need to fine tune things a bit, I agree, but realistically firing any of our baseball coaches right now would almost certainly be another giant mistake.

We just beat FSU and Ole Miss IN ONE DAY, and we made the championship game in our regional. I'll take it.

GO EAGLES !!!

Old Dominion just scrooged the pooch. No CUSA team advanced past regionals. All of these teams have CWS type talent, but it was fumbled or not used properly. My only question is how long will it take to move past the regionals? Rice University made a poor hire here in Houston and everyone knew it. Their program continued to suffer and things only got worse. They fired their coach because they realized their poor hire. I will stop just short of firing Berry, but what metrics is he trying to meet? What does that look like? Remember Jeff Bower saying 9-3 isn't good enough at Southern Miss? Football seems to be renewed, what does it take for baseball? At what will USM be a school that isn't perpetually poor so it can't make better hires? These are just a few questions that not only need to be answered in baseball, but athletics overall.
