I wasn't a big fan of Jay Hopson as he always seemed to be distant to the fan base. I understand why folks are running Jay down like he was the death of our program. But I ran across a statistic today (fact) that caused me to pause and think some. Jay and Larry Fedora (who folks love to brag about) had the same conference winning percentage of 0.625. Yep I know the conference changed some for the worse but it's an interesting stat. Another stat from the same page had Jeff Bower with a 0.74 winning percentage in conference play. Jay did very well at Alcorn but failed to have that same success at USM. Fedora had one great season at USM but failed at UNC. The point of all this is that it is, like many say, about the players more so than coaching sometimes. We don't have to have 5* talent, just the best talent in our conference. And maybe a coach that can coach that talent. Right now it's had to tell which is the most lacking. Hopefully we have the right coach and he'll get the right talent. Next year will have to be noticeable different to not loss the remainder of the fan base.
