Docs thoughts on USM football

This is really a fun read, very complimentary of our coach and team, and I believe it's his honest opinion and not just coach speak. GO EAGLES!!!!!!!

Agreed. I'm glad USM has gained back a large percentage of reputation and favor it lost in the 3 previous years, especially from coaches. That being said, Coach Doc will have his team ready to go on the field. This will be a good game, hopefully.

Line opened at +7 yesterday and has moved to +5 today. We have covered every game this year. Vegas has the game at 32-27 Marshall. They scored 27 against ODU last week, so I don't see them scoring that many against us. Not only do we cover. We win. 38-20.

I feel very good about the team's chances for winning. You wouldn't think so after last years game- but things have changed that much. Marshall isn't the steamroller that they were last season, losing to Ohio and going to double OT to defeat Kent State. I noticed that they're using a different QB than the one who played in the Ohio game. With the game on the road and with a lot at stake I expect the game to be a battle.

I appreciate the respect from Doc glad to hear it. I like what Monken said that the players have to weed out the "noise." We know Nick is conference offensive player of the week; team is getting better and all BUT none of that matters come game time. They have got to stay focused Marshall is going to be ready for us no doubt. They are like 15-1 at home recently. This contest will be a challenge for sure.

USM will roll Marshall in front of a national television audience. It wont even be close....and it feels so good to be typing this.

Marshall is starting Chase Litton at QB, freshman from Tampa FL. He took over for Michael Birdsong who injured his shoulder during the Purdue game and struggled at Ohio because of it.

Here are Litton's highlights from Norfolk St. It was Litton's first game. The offense has sputtered against Kent St and ODU. Marshall has been without RBs Devon Johnson and Remi Watson as well as OT Clint Van Horn. Watson is expected to play Friday, Johnson and Van Horn are still questionable.

Kent St threw everything at him in his second start, as they should have. Believe it or not, Kent St's defense may be the best we face all season.

They really crossed him up, disguising coverage and blitzing on every series. The absence of Van Horn and Devon Johnson was most evident in this game. No run game or an effective max protect allowed them to tee off on Litton resulting in 5 sacks and 2 INTs. We were lucky to get out of there with a win.

Thanks for the info on the Herd. We've been hit with a lot of injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Starting safety Devonta Foster has been out since the opener and his backup Deshadrick Truly has missed the past two games. Linebacker Anthony Swain also missed the North Texas games after getting injured against Nebraska. Coach Monken doesn't give injury updates, but he did say he thought those three and DT Draper Riley who has been out would practice this week. Would be huge to have all of those guys back on Friday night.

Good to hear those guys are getting healthy.

The Herd had managed to avoid the injury bug the last few seasons. Seems like that's catching up with them in 2015. Good thing is none have been season-ending so far.
