Southern Miss Athletics Release Football Gameday Info...

We are excited to start the football season this fall on Thursday, September 3rd at home against South Alabama. We understand how challenging and trying these times have been for many folks around our great state and nation, but we are looking forward to the return of college football in Hattiesburg for our fans to enjoy.

While plans for a Southern Miss 2020 football season are moving forward, we are currently finalizing some adjustments to comply with state mandated guidelines and other safety protocols that we will be implementing to keep our fans, student-athletes and coaches as safe as possible. Per Governor Tate Reeves’ Executive Order 1519 announced on August 20 current stadium capacity will be limited to 25% in the bowl, but as a season ticket holder the new capacity limitations will not affect your ability to attend our home games. However, in an effort to ensure we are complying with the state’s social distancing requirements of six feet between households we will be implementing a general admission policy per section in the stadium. This means you will be provided a ticket that permits you access to sit in the section which you purchased, but you will not have an assigned seat within that section. Seat selections will be first come first serve on game day, and subject to social distancing guidelines.

Below are some of the additional safety measures that will be implemented on campus and in the Rock:

  • Digital/contactless ticketing will be the primary method of tickets for this season instead of physical tickets
  • Hand sanitizer stations at gate entrances and throughout the entire stadium
  • Face coverings will be required for all patrons to enter/exit the stadium and at all times when patrons are “in transit” within the concourse, elevators, restrooms, and concession sales areas. Face coverings will be recommended and encouraged in seating areas even when it is possible to maintain six feet of separation from persons not in the same household. All credentialed game day workers and employees will wear face coverings at all times.
    • Exceptions include children under 6 years old or for medical or behavioral conditions (Executive orders 1516 and 1519)
  • Social distancing measures will be encouraged while in the concourses, concession stands and restroom lines
  • Increased cashless only concession and merchandise stands; limited cash stands will be available
  • Aramark has implemented several health screenings and other safety protocols for their concession stand employees
  • Designated safe zones will be established for any season ticket holder to relocate to if desired
  • In accordance to Executive Order 1519, tailgating and social gatherings are prohibited at this time

Please know we will constantly evaluate these safety measures and others that are implemented to ensure we are able to adapt with this rapidly changing pandemic.

If you are an Eagle Club member you will still receive a parking pass for the season in a reserved lot. RV parking lots will open on the night before home games at 6 p.m., but gatherings around RV’s should be limited to follow state mandated guidelines. On game days Eagle Club reserved car parking lots will open four hours prior to kick off. Parking passes will begin to go in the mail during the week of August 24.

To keep you informed with the most up to date details regarding the 2020 Southern Miss football season we will distribute additional information next week to include season ticket delivery details. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call us at 1800-844-TICK (601-266-5418) or email us at ticket.office@usm.edu.

Thank you for your support and patience during these times.

What's going on with all the players leaving?

What's happening that players are bailing out left and right? I know many say it's competition for playing time, COVID, player-portal temptation, etc... but something doesn't add up. I don't see this happening at other schools and if we had THAT much competition we would have a better product on the field for the past 2 or 3 years. Looks like the players are "getting out while the gettin's good" .

Any rumors or insight on the team morale?

Thoughts on the current sit out/transfer situation at Southern Miss

It is easy to look at the past 24 hours in Southern Miss football and understand why fans are concerned. Like many of you, when the news of Steven Anderson opting to sit out and transfer this season hit social media this morning, even I starting asking, "just what the heck is going on!!' If I have learned anything from covering college sports for the past 5 years, it is to sit back, wait, and just see what transpires. So, that is what I did today.

There will be some Eagle Club parking changes for football due to construction...

I got this email from Southern Miss today, " We hope you and your family have been staying safe during these uncertain times, and want to thank you for your continued support of our student-athletes and Southern Miss Athletics. As we prepare for the 2020 football season we wanted to communicate some Eagle Club reserved parking updates that will take place this season. Due to the completion of multiple construction projects on campus, we will be relocating the Motorhome Lot that is currently located in the Physical Plant/Ferlise Center parking area (Lot 18) back to the Payne Center parking lot (Lot 13). With this relocation of RV’s to the Payne Center parking lot there will no longer be availablity in this lot for game day car parking.

Attendance and Tailgating at Southern Miss....

Spoke to someone about this topic, and even though the Gov will tell the schools what they can do Southern Miss already has a plan in place. It will be 25% which is between 8 and 9 thousand. That will allow Eagle Club, Season Ticket, Students, and supposedly a smaller almost "pep" band into the stadium. At this time it looks as if no tailgating can take place but off campus they have no say. This isn't official, but what I heard today so take it as you will.

Practice time change....

Because school has started, they have moved practice times to evenings. I will get the info out to you guys as soon as I can, it may be posted late in the evening or the next morning. Just wanted to let you all know because practice reports will be later than before. I should have you guys an offensive depth chart in the next day or so. Hope you all have enjoyed practice coverage. Because of the changes made due to Covid, it has been real difficult to get you all as much inside as possible.

Oh and I just wanted to let you guys know that I will begin putting on the prosthesis a week from today and begin gate training (learning to walk with it) immediately after. Thanks to everyone for your prayers, thoughts, well wishes, and support through this. I know there was a few months there where not much came out, but you stuck with me and I really appreciated that. Thanks again and God Bless!!!
