More info on why Hop is out.....

Just got some more info. Hop supposedly started this conversation with the administration. He was just miserable. He felt that he was having to fight with everyone for everything. Dealing with the death of his dad has been tough on him. He wanted out. He got some of the buyout, but not all of it. (Not sure the numbers on the buyout)

Just a second.. All is not lost.

Remember when State lost to us and went on to win out? Not going to say we will do likewise but I do think we will be able to win 6 games this year. In order to do that, we need another play-caller. We can't waste a down every series by running the ball up the middle. Our strength is passing so do so. Tackling seems to be a great urgency. as we can see. You can't hit guys in the backfield and then let him gain 6 or 7 yards. Shore this up and we can stop the opposing offense. A lot of the long pass completions they mad were just lucky completions. The guy looked like Bart Star in spite of what I thought was a fairly good pass rush. I am going down to the LaTech game, I will be the only one in section H so stop by and say hello.

Commitment

At the risk of being accused of "blaming the fans" I want to challenges some.

I'm going to call tomorrow to see if I can up my commitment $250. It isn't much, alone. I'm also going to see about why they haven't sent my parking pass yet.

IF enough of us do that, or possibly more, the school could actually see some commitment and a push to get better on our budget.

It's a small thing. It could grow IF enough did it. It might spur the big boys to do as little more.

At the least it should get me my parking pass.

The Southern Miss football radio show is on now.

I know this was recorded around 12:00 noon Hattiesburg time today but I am wondering if there was be any foreshadowing of what happened later. I am using the Y104 link. It has started off with the AD and John Cox with no mention of Hopson.

Jay's Faults that led to todays decision

Lack of realism in the future of the OL. He depended on the kids on the roster to develop into good players and he was wrong.

Lacked the ability to motivate the players.

Lacked the ability to place people in the stands

Failure to maintain team discipline

Failure to adjust at halftime.

Failure to diversify the offense and display imagination.

He is a good guy, and I wish him well.

Who should be interim HC...

I know that Billings seems like the logical choice. He has experience as a HC and has been coaching for years. If I were Jeremy, I would give the keys to Scotty Walden. Look, the way that things were going the season was going to be a wash. Give it to Scotty, who knows, we may have a Dabo situation develop and he would take the job for relatively cheap. Jeremy is going to have to decide if Walden is mature enough, at this point in his career as a coach, to take the lead of an FBS program. Roll the dice and see what happens.

Real Talk...

Not a bashing thread. I know money is tight, or non-existent, and the politician administration is unlikely to pull the trigger... but IF they did, real talk...

Who is out there that we could afford? Not just afford and obviously be an upgrade, but who could come in and potentially be what we need?

Do we go back to a young energetic OC? (Yes please)

Do we find another has-been coach with ties to USM? (Hell no)

An FCS championship coach? (Maybe)
