Coat may be spared from oil spill

Hoping that is true. Any spill is bad, and this one is really bad, but I don't get some of the comments (see below) that have been made about 'putting BP out of business.' Unless someone wants to make the case that BP planned and carried out this oil spill intentionally, we must all agree that it was a very bad accident. If it was not an accident, and someone other than BP did something to cause that explosion, then THEY are at fault. I have no doubt that BP is doing, and will continue to do, whatever is necessary to stop the leak, clean up the spill and make whatever adjustments are necessary to make sure this does not happen again. There may need to be more safeguards on blowout preventers, or oil containment, or perhaps even rig security (they still don't know who or what caused the explosion).

Should BP pay the tab for all of this? Yes. Are they 100% responsible? Yes.

But that does not mean they should be put out of business. After all, no oil company is immune from an accident.

Imagine if we put companies out of business - car companies, food companies, pharmaceutical companies, etc. - every time something went wrong with their products. In life, stuff happens. You react, adjust, and move on.
